Hatching the Future: Our New Smolt Facility is Now Operational

We are excited to announce that Lago Sofía Circular Food has taken a significant step towards a more sustainable future in aquaculture. Our new state-of-the-art smolt facility, inaugurated in April, is now fully operational, producing millions of Atlantic salmon (Salmo Salar) eggs.

Cutting-edge Technology for a Sustainable Future

This modern facility, equipped with cutting-edge technology, allows us to rear our fish in a controlled and secure environment from the egg stage to smolt. Our Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) with UV lamps ensures exceptional water quality and an extremely low microbial load. This translates into:

  • Optimal growth: Our smolts grow healthy and strong, thanks to a stress-free environment and top-notch nutrition.
  • Animal welfare: We prioritize the well-being of our fish at every stage of their development.
  • Sustainability: We reduce our environmental impact by optimizing water use and minimizing waste generation.

A Team Committed to Innovation

Behind this great achievement is a highly skilled and passionate team dedicated to sustainable aquaculture. Our Production Manager, Pablo Andrés Carrillo Zapata, expresses his enthusiasm for this new chapter in the history of Lago Sofía: “With great motivation and joy, we have embarked on this new journey, knowing that we have a young team of professionals with great technical and human capabilities to carry out the future production of smolts in our new facilities.”

Why is this new facility important?

Producing smolts in our own facilities allows us to:

  • Control quality: We guarantee the quality of our fish from the beginning of their life cycle.
  • Optimize processes: We increase the efficiency and productivity of our operation.
